DIY inspired by Black Panther

DIY inspired by Black Panther

"This maybe the night that my dreams might let me know...all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer."

- "All the Stars" Kendrick Lamar feat. SZA (2018 "Black Panther" Soundtrack)

Marvel's Black Panther lived up to the hype! It surpassed my expectations and inspired me to DIY home decor honoring my favorite character, Okoye. She's the general of the Dora Milaje and the head of Wakanda's armed forces and intel.

Fierce right? I love how she lead her army with a mix of combination of strength, intelligence, dignity and a little bit of humor. The neck piece of her armor inspired my projects, a vase and lamp.

Both of these projects turned out so cool! Now, find out how to have  #WakandaForever in your own home!

Supplies:

  • Flat Copper Wire  (I bought 3 packages from Etsy

  • E6000 Glue

  • Clamps

  • Rubber Bands or ponytail holders

  • Wire Cutters or Scissors

  • A vase , lamp or other object of your choice (Goodwill is a great place to find cheap, but still quality glassware)

Before I start with the steps, I just wanted to give you a closer look at what the wire looks like out of the package. It's tightly coiled and that's why I chose to use cylinder objects.

Okay, let's get started for real. Clean the glassware. Grab the wire and start at the bottom of the vase. I applied a light layer of E6000 glue to the metal and then stuck it on the bottom rim of the case. I wrapped the wire around the case once.

Keep that in place with a rubberband (I used a ponytail holder). Let that dry overnight.

Once it's dried, wrap the wire around the vase until the very top. Find a discrete place to end the wrapping and snip off the wire. Secure this with more E6000 glue and clamp the wire to the vase. Let that cure overnight.

Once it's dry, take a damp cotton ball to clean up the glue and fingerprints. And then you're finished!

As for the lamp. I simply spray-painted it a beautiful black matte . I then wrapped the wire around the center, securing it with ponytail holders. It was honestly easier than the vase, but turned out super cute!

Lessons Learned:

  • Clean Hands Remove all of the oil and lotion from your hands to prevent fingerprints on the metal

  • Choose your metal carefully. Be sure to read all of the reviews.

  • Be patient! This project took me longer than I wanted because I didn't wait for the glue to dry overnight. My impatience caused me to start over a few times lol

Peace and #WakandaForever!
